About The Position

The Staff Pad has partnered with a well-known hospital in Helena, MT and we are seeking an experienced, dedicated and empathetic Registered Nurse - Oncology to join a compassionate and highly collaborative Oncology team where your clinical expertise and empathy make a meaningful impact every day. In this role, you will provide both direct and indirect patient care within the Oncology Unit while fostering an environment built on compassion, professionalism, initiative, flexibility, and teamwork. You’ll work alongside experienced healthcare professionals who value your voice, support your growth, and empower you to provide outstanding care with increasing independence.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing
  • Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and accountability as an Oncology Staff RN
  • Current Montana Registered Nurse License required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Ability to think critically, respond quickly to changing clinical situations, and provide high-quality nursing care across departments with appropriate supervision.
  • Ability to prioritize patient care based on physical and psychosocial needs and effectively addresses ethical issues related to cancer pain management, end-of-life decisions, altered body image, death and dying & informed consent
  • Strong critical thinking and organizational skills
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, and team members
  • A compassionate, non-judgmental approach to patient care
  • Flexibility with scheduling and department assignments
  • Openness to feedback, continuous learning, and professional growth
  • Ability to perform general nursing duties across all departments under appropriate supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous oncology nursing experience preferred, with a strong commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-focused care
  • Oncology Nursing Certification preferred
  • Completion of Chemotherapy/Oncology coursework and competency validation required within six months to one year of hire to become eligible to administer chemotherapy
  • Ongoing chemotherapy education and annual competency maintenance required.

Responsibilities

  • Apply the nursing process as a standard of care, incorporating holistic, family-centered principles through the collection, verification, and organization of patient health data, followed by care planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Serve as a mentor and resource for new and inexperienced nurses, helping build a strong and supportive team culture
  • Demonstrate and apply advanced knowledge of chemotherapy, method of administration, rate of delivery, drug properties, medication safety, treatment protocols, and oncology best practices
  • Educate patients and families about chemotherapy medications, expected side effects, symptom management, and safe handling procedures, while providing reassurance and emotional support throughout the care journey.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurse leaders, and interdisciplinary team members and responds quickly to changes in patient condition, diagnostic findings, and treatment responses
