About The Position

This role involves providing direct nursing care, including the administration of chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments. The nurse will implement and monitor patient care plans, document and carry out physician and nursing orders, and coordinate patient discharge planning. Key responsibilities include assessing patients for side effects and allergic reactions, practicing safe handling of cytotoxic agents, and drawing blood samples. Expertise in managing various central venous access devices and programmable pumps, including troubleshooting, is essential.

Requirements

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Certification specializing in Chemotherapy credentialed from the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in the use of Triple lumen catheters, PortaCath, Hickman, Groshong, and PICC lines, and several types of programmable pumps.
  • Knowledge of how to handle expected side effects of treatments.
  • Ability to observe for and take appropriate action for allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to drugs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care, including the administration of chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
  • Implements and monitors patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Document and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
  • Assess patients for expected side effects and has knowledge of how to handle them.
  • Observe for allergic or hypersensitivity reactions to the drugs and takes appropriate action.
  • Practice safe handling of cytotoxic agents, including any spills.
  • Draw blood samples and is an expert in the use of Triple lumen catheters, PortaCath, Hickman, Groshong, and PICC lines, and several types of programmable pumps.
  • Troubleshoots problems with these technologies.
