About The Position

This position guides new employees, researchers, volunteers, residents, students, and other Health Care Workers (HCWs) through the preplacement and annual screening process. It assists with access issues, information collection, and data management, ensuring consistent adherence to applied biosafety laboratory, infection control, and EHS/OIC standards. The role provides medical surveillance for occupationally based exposures, coordinating and collaborating with other departments, the Medical Director, and source patients to develop and implement appropriate treatment plans for employee patients. Additionally, it coordinates a comprehensive immunization program for employees and provides employee orientation and education related to occupational illness and injury.

Requirements

  • Current Massachusetts state licensure.
  • Graduate from accredited school of nursing.
  • Minimum of two years of up to date and progressively responsible nursing experience in Employee Health, Occupational Health, Infection Control or related field.
  • Skilled with utilization of EMR and other software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills.
  • Experience in caring for employees with bloodborne pathogen exposures.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the entry of new hires into the UMass Memorial Health (UMMH) and/or UMass Chan Medical School (UMCMS) and Research Labs, coordinating the retrieval of information and the delivery of the preplacement assessment process in accordance with defined job-specific protocols.
  • Assists new hires and current employees in understanding what is needed, options available to them, resources, and the results of all testing.
  • Provides education along the continuum of the process to new hires and existing employees.
  • Develops concise status updates to all stakeholders in a manner that protects the patient/employee’s HIPAA rights.
  • Develops relationships with all key stakeholders for both UMMH and UMCMS, as well as affiliate entities.
