About The Position

Geisinger is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse for their Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) at Geisinger Medical Center (GMC). This role offers a competitive hiring incentive of up to $21,500 for eligible candidates, with a minimum hiring rate of $41.50 per hour, plus shift differentials for evenings, nights, and weekends. Relocation assistance is also available for eligible candidates. The NSICU is an 18-bed critical care unit focused on neurosurgery and neurology patients, utilizing a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach with cutting-edge technologies in a fast-paced environment. The unit operates under a shared governance structure, empowering staff to make decisions impacting professional practice and operations. Support is provided by an Operations Manager, two Team Coordinators, and two Clinical Nurse Educators. Geisinger Medical Center is ANCC Magnet Recognized, signifying the highest standard in nursing practice and patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, plans, organizes, performs, and evaluates nursing activities to meet patient needs.
  • Promotes adaptive responses of patient and family to achieve optimal patient care, safety, and satisfaction.
  • Exhibits compassionate care during patient-nurse interactions.
  • Coordinates patient care and the interaction of staff.
  • Meets qualifications to provide care for patients in the assigned nursing unit.
  • Ensures the best patient and family experience by optimizing all interactions.
  • Completes assessments as established by scope of practice and unit standards.
  • Addresses physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patient and family throughout the continuum of care.
  • Formulates, coordinates, and provides a plan of care, including patient and family education, family needs, and discharge planning, in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Provides direct patient care, including treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies according to policy and procedure.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions and revises the plan of care based on patient response.
  • Initiates collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and other interdisciplinary team members to proactively resolve and facilitate patient needs.
  • Problem-solves, troubleshoots, and takes corrective measures in the care and handling of equipment.
  • Participates in unit-based decision-making regarding the utilization of evidence-based practice.
  • Actively participates as a team member working toward unit and organizational goals and is accountable for unit and system specific metrics.
  • Actively participates in patient quality and safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational quality and safety.
  • Satisfies all job-specific obligations and complies with all organization policies and procedures.
