About The Position

AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse – Neurology to provide specialized outpatient nursing care and clinical support at Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC), Nellis AFB. The RN will support adult and geriatric neurology patients through assessment, triage, care coordination, patient education, medication and treatment support, electronic documentation, and collaboration with physicians, nurses, pharmacy, radiology, lab, and ancillary staff. The role requires strong outpatient specialty nursing skills, the ability to recognize and respond to emergencies, and compliance with DHA/MTF standards for safety, infection control, documentation, and quality care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
  • Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
  • Certifications must be through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Online/computer-based training does not meet certification requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, full, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Strong adult and geriatric nursing assessment skills.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theories, principles, practices, disease processes, diagnostic studies, and treatment methods.
  • Ability to triage and evaluate patients by telephone and in person.
  • Knowledge of preventive health, disease management, population health principles, and patient education methods.
  • Knowledge of pharmacological agents, medication effects, side effects, complications, and documentation requirements.
  • Strong emergency response, clinical decision-making, communication, patient education, documentation, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to operate and monitor specialized clinical equipment.
  • Ability to coordinate referrals, follow-up care, and continuity of care.
  • Must meet all DHA/MEHP health requirements, including required screenings, TB screening, immunizations, and annual flu vaccination.
  • Must also complete background investigation, credentialing and base access requirements for Nellis AFB/MOMMC.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of outpatient clinical experience in neurology is preferred.
  • Outpatient clinical experience in a related specialty will be considered.
  • Familiarity with DHA, military healthcare, MTF operations, TRICARE, managed care, or HMO systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing services within the scope of practice, clinical privileges, DHA standards, MTF policies, and applicable procedures.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for adult and geriatric neurology patients.
  • Coordinate patient care across the continuum to support quality, cost-effective, and timely outcomes.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacy, radiology, lab, and other healthcare professionals to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Maintain compliance with ethical, legal, patient safety, HIPAA, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in staff meetings, peer review, orientation, training, competency verification, process improvement, customer service initiatives, and medical readiness activities.
  • Obtain and document patient histories, physical assessments, medication lists, vital signs, and clinical concerns.
  • Perform telephone and in-person assessment, evaluation, triage, and follow-up care.
  • Determine appropriate level and location of care, including clinic, ER, home care, or follow-up as needed.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, procedures, and follow-up care.
  • Perform a full range of nursing procedures including patient counseling, telephone consultations, chart reviews, IV fluid administration, oxygen administration, vital sign monitoring, specimen collection, and unit-specific procedures.
  • Assist with procedures such as IV access, phlebotomy, central line use/maintenance, port access when applicable, and other clinic-specific procedures under established protocols.
  • Administer medications and prescribed treatments in accordance with clinical guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and respond quickly to urgent or emergency situations, including initiating CPR and assisting with ACLS measures when necessary.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor specialized equipment such as IV infusion pumps, oxygen analyzers, suction, vital sign monitoring devices, and other clinic-specific equipment.
  • Ensure medications, supplies, and equipment are replenished, stored properly, and maintained within regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate written and electronic medical record documentation, including telephone contacts and patient care activities.
  • Provide clinical oversight and guidance to paraprofessionals involved in therapeutic treatments.
  • Ensure proper documentation and coding of procedures and treatments.
  • Assist with nursing care in other clinics when directed by the clinic Medical Director or flight leadership.
