About The Position

AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a qualified Licensed Practical Nurse – Neurology to provide outpatient nursing and clinical support services at Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC), Nellis AFB. The LPN will support neurology patients by assisting with patient intake, vital signs, medication administration, treatments, diagnostic and clinical procedures, patient education, documentation, and coordination of care. The role requires strong outpatient nursing support skills, knowledge of clinical procedures, ability to recognize urgent/emergent patient needs, and compliance with DHA/MTF standards for safety, infection control, documentation, and quality care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical or vocational nursing.
  • Must have successfully passed the National Council Licensure Examination-Practical Nurse (NCLEX-PN).
  • Minimum two years of full-time experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Experience must include performing patient care and treatment, operating and maintaining therapeutic equipment, properly administering oral and parenteral medications, conducting paraprofessional portions of physical examinations, or assisting in medical treatment of patients in accordance with established procedures and protocols within the LVN/LPN scope of practice.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Certification must be through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Online/computer-based training does not meet certification requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice nursing in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Any disciplinary action or loss of license must be reported to the employer within 72 hours.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, psychology, pharmacology, medical ethics, legal concepts, clinical procedures, and patient care.
  • Ability to provide emergency medical treatment support, including CPR/basic life support measures.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique, specimen collection, diagnostic testing, medication administration, vaccination procedures, anaphylaxis/shock response, therapeutic equipment, risk management, and automated medical records.
  • Ability to complete assigned patient care using judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments.
  • Ability to accurately recognize, report, and record relevant patient information.
  • Strong oral communication skills for patient and family education.
  • Strong written communication skills for accurate documentation, including electronic documentation and telephone contacts.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse healthcare team members to support patient care and organizational goals.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with coworkers, families, patients, and team members.
  • Must meet all DHA/MEHP health requirements, including required screenings, TB screening, immunizations, and annual flu vaccination.
  • Must also complete background investigation, credentialing/qualification, and base access requirements for Nellis AFB/MOMMC.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a full range of LPN duties within the scope of license and privileges granted by the MTF.
  • Provide outpatient nursing and administrative support in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Support patient care for variable patient populations by completing assigned duties based on patient condition and clinical priorities.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and hard-copy medical records as required.
  • Participate in training, continuing education, safe work practices, and clinic readiness activities.
  • Monitor and record age-appropriate physiological measurements and vital signs.
  • Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
  • Prepare and position patients for diagnostic testing, examinations, treatments, and clinical procedures.
  • Perform appropriate portions of medical examinations, treatments, diagnostic procedures, and clinical procedures.
  • Observe, identify, and respond to patient care needs, including medication, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education.
  • Prepare and administer prescribed medications, including oral, topical, subcutaneous, and/or intramuscular medications, in accordance with scope of practice and training.
  • Recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance from the RN and/or provider, and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed.
  • Perform support duties for complex diagnostic tests, specialized practices, and procedures, including patient preparation, assisting during examinations, handling instruments/equipment, and monitoring patient condition before, during, and after procedures.
  • Record treatments, procedures performed, and observed effects.
  • Identify patient problems and accurately notify the nursing team of observations.
  • Provide individualized patient teaching, including preventive healthcare and health maintenance topics.
  • Adhere to infection control procedures, including use of PPE, waste disposal, and aseptic technique.
  • Ensure equipment is properly assembled, operated, cleaned, stored, and maintained at the end of each shift.
  • Perform medical record reviews and apply appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs.
  • Prepare and submit administrative reports as required.
