Registered Nurse - Neonatal ICU - RN

Mayo ClinicRochester, MN
Onsite

About The Position

The NICU is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide exceptional care for neonates and their families. Our team is committed to family-centered care, empowering caregivers to actively participate in their baby’s well-being. Our unit serves a diverse patient population, ranging from extremely premature infants to full-term babies. We care for infants with various medical needs, including cardiac, surgical, and multisystem dysfunction. Our dedicated RNs provide specialized care for infants who are born extremely premature at less than 26 weeks gestation or weighing less than 1000 grams, preterm and late preterm infants requiring specialized ICU care, need respiratory support (high-frequency or conventional ventilation, nasal BiPAP/CPAP, or high/low flow nasal cannula oxygen), need nutritional support (emphasis on infant-driven practices, including breastfeeding, bottle feeding, tube feeding, or total parental nutrition), and need additional support (surgical interventions, seizure monitoring, therapeutic hypothermia, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)/dialysis, antibiotic treatment, and other necessary therapies). The NICU has a specially trained nurse-respiratory therapist neonatal transport team that transports critically ill infants from Rochester Methodist Hospital and other community hospitals to our unit for specialized NICU care. The MB3B NICU operates on a “closed staffing model.” RNs may be asked to work extra shifts or take time off based on patient volume and acuity. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship. Successful sponsorship will require state licensure and completion of the VisaScreen or equivalent certification.
