Manager or Manager, Health Services, the incumbent is responsible for: promotion and compliance with the VH mission, objectives, goals, policies and procedures for perioperative nursing; providing a continuity of care throughout the perioperative period, using scientific and behavioural practices with the eventual goal of meeting the individual needs of the patient undergoing surgical intervention. (Expected practice behaviours include assessment, planning, implementation of perioperative nursing interventions and evaluation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing education program required.
  • Current perioperative nursing experience required.
  • Responsible for maintaining and providing proof of registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Training requirements for this position shall be in accordance with the Employer policy.
  • Knowledge of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba Standards of Practice for Registered Nurses.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses.
  • Knowledge of Scope of practice as documented in the Regulated Health Professions Act (RHPA)/Registered Psychiatric Nurses Act.
  • Knowledge of Regional/Facility/Unit policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of Nursing care related to the clinical area.
  • Knowledge of Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act, Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • Knowledge of Roles and responsibilities of members of the healthcare team.
  • Knowledge of Principles of delegation.
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking/problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual patient or group of patients.
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands.
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities.
  • Ability to perform independently and as a member of the healthcare team.

  • Proficient with computers, software programs, and applications such as Windows and Word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Successful completion of the AORN Periop 101 online course within three months of the date of employment. Extensions to complete the course may be granted up to six months in special circumstances.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to those with demonstrated current perioperative nursing experience.
  • Post-graduate perioperative nursing course preferred.
  • CNA Perioperative Nursing Certification preferred.
  • Successful completion of the AORN Periop 101 online course or equivalent Operating Room training/experience is preferred.
  • Active participation in professional associations e.g. Association of Regulated Nurses of Manitoba (ARNM) preferred.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.

Responsibilities
