About The Position

Conemaugh Nason Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for its Medical-Surgical unit. This role is part of Lifepoint Health, a healthcare network committed to employee well-being and providing exceptional patient care. The unit offers flexible scheduling to support work-life balance, with a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 5:1 to ensure safe and effective care.

Requirements

  • Graduates of an RN program
  • Current nurse’s license in the state of Pennsylvania or a current multistate license (MSL) from compact member states/territories.
  • Associate’s degree is required.
  • BLS within 30 days of hire required.
  • ACLS within 30 days of hire required.
  • Basic Trauma Nurse Course (BTNC) or equivalent training (ATCN, TCRN, TNCC) obtained within 1 year of hire is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • PALS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates effective utilization of the nursing process as the basis for nursing practices.
  • Develops individualized care plans to meet patients' physical, emotional, and psychological needs.
  • Plans appropriate nursing interventions, regularly evaluates patient responses to care, and updates plans as needed.
  • Develops discharge plans with the physician, patient, and family, and prepares patients for discharge.
  • Completes discharge instruction records as per physician direction and reviews information with patient/family.
  • Completes transfer procedures, obtains appropriate consents, and provides complete reports to the accepting caregiver.
  • Completes education records and/or transfer records in the EMR.
  • Demonstrates effectiveness in coordinating care, identifying needs, and making appropriate referrals.
  • Provides care according to hospital policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Administers medications and IV therapies accurately and safely, monitors effects, and reports adverse effects.
  • Educates patients on new medications, including their purpose and potential adverse effects.
  • Accurately accounts for narcotics and documents all medication administrations.
  • Recognizes and reports errors and adverse reactions in a timely manner.
  • Functions according to the State Nurse Practice Act and delivers care consistent with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Ensures patient safety and security by maintaining a clean and safe environment and keeping call bells within reach.
  • Demonstrates understanding of hospital infection control procedures and utilizes appropriate handwashing and universal precautions.
  • Promptly answers patient call lights and fulfills requests, making hourly patient rounds.
  • Maintains patient care equipment, reports malfunctions, and requisitions service appropriately.
  • Utilizes effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Communicates pertinent patient care information at shift changes via BSSR.
  • Communicates significant changes in patient condition to the team leader, physician, and supervisor.
  • Monitors patients hourly or every 2 hours.
  • Reports patient, visitor, and physician complaints through personal action or referral.
  • Completes and documents performance improvement activities, participating in problem identification and implementing actions to improve patient care.
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities and assumes leadership roles.
  • Functions independently, demonstrating responsibility for the delivery of care to assigned patients.
  • Directs, supervises, and evaluates care delivered by ancillary staff members.
  • Serves as a professional role model and preceptor for new personnel.
  • Manages conflict and frustration positively and constructively, and accepts constructive criticism.
  • Utilizes appropriate lines of authority within the organizational structure.
  • Demonstrates competence in assessing patient care needs and utilizing appropriate staff for care.
  • Uses supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Maintains an orderly and therapeutic environment.
  • Demonstrates accountability for personal and professional standards.
  • Maintains current knowledge in nursing practice, appropriate certifications, and unit competencies.
  • Demonstrates understanding of emergency and disaster plans and responds appropriately.
  • Positively impacts and improves nursing practice through proactive action.
