Sentara Obici Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for its Medical-Surgical Unit in Suffolk, VA. This unit is described as a supportive environment ideal for both new graduates and experienced nurses, with a 21-bed capacity and an RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5 or 6, assisted by PCTs. The hospital is a certified stroke center and a Magnet-designated hospital. Sentara Obici Hospital offers a unique 6-month Transition to Practice Program for RNs with less than 12 months of experience or those transitioning to a new practice area, which includes general nursing orientation, a specialty clinical track, residency, professional development sessions, and mentoring. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
