Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
About The Position
This is a Medical Surgical Registered Nurse position. The role requires the nurse to be proficient in a variety of skills including telemetry monitoring, managing various patient conditions such as dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, and anemia, as well as hip fractures. The unit has an isolation area for COVID patients and provides multi-level care, including stepdown services managed by separate staff. The nurse will be expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, potentially reporting to work during catastrophic events or disasters. Consolidation to a Centralized Office mid-contract may occur, with preassignment to units as needed. RTO is limited to 7 days maximum. Floating is required, and weekend coverage is expected for 12-16 shifts per contract. The nurse must be available for daily classes during hospital orientation in the first week and pass EKG testing prior to the start date for this specialty. Scrubs should be navy/white.

- Experience with Colostomy Care.
- Experience with Feeding tube care & management.
- Experience with Pre/Post Hemodialysis Management.
- Experience with Blood Product Administration.
- Experience with Central line blood draw.
- Experience with Peripheral Line Care/Management.
- Experience with Phlebotomy.
- Experience with PICC line management.
- Ability to start IVs.
- Experience with Heparin.
- Experience with PCA.
- Experience with Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleuravac.
- Experience with CPAP/BiPAP.
- Experience with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC).
- Experience with Nasal Cannula.
- Experience with Non-invasive airway management.
- Experience with Oral Suctioning.
- Experience with Oxygen face masks.
- Experience with Portable Oxygen tank.
- Knowledge of Isolation Precautions.
- Experience with Wound Care/Wound Vac.
- Current BCLS certification.
- Must pass EKG Testing prior to start.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a Medical Surgical setting.
- Monitor patients using telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias.
- Administer medications and treatments, including IV insulin protocols, heparin, and PCA.
- Manage patient care related to colostomy, feeding tubes, and pre/post hemodialysis.
- Administer blood products and manage central lines, peripheral lines, and PICC lines.
- Perform phlebotomy and start IVs.
- Manage chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), and other non-invasive airway management.
- Provide wound care, including wound vac management.
- Adhere to isolation precautions for COVID patients.
- Work as part of a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, reporting during catastrophic events or disasters.
- Float to other units as needed.
- Participate in unit needs-based scheduling.
- Complete 24 hours of unit orientation and hospital orientation, including daily classes.
