The Medical-Surgical RN is responsible for providing safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients by assessing, treating, monitoring, educating, and documenting patient care while maintaining competency in clinical skills, emergency response, specialized equipment, and electronic medical records in accordance with military treatment facility and Joint Commission standards. The role also includes collaborating with the interdisciplinary team, supporting quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, precepting new staff, maintaining required certifications and competencies, and adapting to unit needs, including floating and participation in readiness and customer service activities.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in nursing from an accredited school of Nursing or Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited school of Nursing
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • RN with a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Three (3) years full time experience within the last five years in Caring for Adult patients in an Acute Care Setting.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain required RN skills, complete competency checklists, and demonstrate knowledge of medical-surgical nursing practices, standards, and procedures.
  • Assess adult and geriatric patients, recognize changes in condition, develop and implement nursing care plans, administer treatments, and provide safe patient-centered care.
  • Respond quickly to life-threatening situations such as cardiac/respiratory arrest, hemorrhage, shock, and trauma; participate in Rapid Response Team and Code Blue events.
  • Administer medications, manage IV therapy, blood products, PCA pumps, epidural infusions, wound care, and operate specialized medical equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams; provide education, collaborate with providers, and maintain accurate electronic medical records.
  • Float to other units as needed and participate in readiness and customer service activities.
