About The Position

This specific role is in the Medical Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at the Nasseff Tower 7A/B (NT 7AB) on the St. Mary’s Hospital Campus. The CICU is an 18-bed unit specializing in the care of critically ill adult patients with complex cardiac conditions and hemodynamic instability. The unit utilizes advanced support modalities and technologies, and is staffed by a multidisciplinary team. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, education, and transitions of care, functioning within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model and ANA Standards of Practice. The RN provides leadership, delegates care, and possesses strong communication, mentoring, and teaching skills. Some employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle. This role is eligible for TN sponsorship.

Requirements

Graduate of a nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
One year of RN experience required.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020, and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020, must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Experience working in a team environment.
Computer skills required.
Ability to work flexible hours, which may include days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends and on-call.
Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.
Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
BLS (Basic Life Support) must be valid for 90 days post start date; acceptable certifications include: American Heart Association (AHA)/ Heartcode® BLS, Military Training Network, Red Cross (CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers).

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care to critically ill adult patients with altered cardiac function and hemodynamic instability.
Care for patients with acute myocardial infarction, cardiogenic shock, postinfarction angina, congestive heart failure, life-threatening arrhythmias, cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease, pulmonary hypertension, and postcardiac arrest.
Utilize advanced support modalities such as mechanical ventilation, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), and temporary left ventricular devices like the Tandem Heart and Impella.
Perform invasive monitoring using pulmonary artery and central venous catheters.
Operate and manage continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and therapeutic hypothermia (Arctic Sun®).
Collect patient data and vital signs using computerized charting and monitoring systems.
Support family-centered care with open visitation and a strong commitment to continuity of care and the primary nursing care delivery model.
Serve as the emergency response team code nurse for the Saint Marys campus, including the Generose building, Marian hall, the convent, chapel areas, and contiguous grounds.
Coordinate nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
Support professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care.
Plan, implement, evaluate, and communicate all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
Provide leadership through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
Delegate patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and availability of resources.
Participate on committees or projects.
May be required to drive their personal vehicle as part of the responsibility of their role.
