About The Position

The Med/Surg Registered Nurse initiates a plan of care based on identified medical and nursing diagnosis which is consistent with knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, human behavior, and outlined standards of care. He/ she directs and coordinates with other departments and ancillary personnel to provide a safe environment and a high standard of quality care.

Requirements

  • State of California Registered Nurse license required.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross PALS certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Critical Care Certification or Critical Care RN (CCRN) required or begin within 90 days of hire.
  • One year of in-patient nursing experience required.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients, peers, physicians, and ancillary departments.

Responsibilities

  • Carefully asses and monitors the physical status of the patient.
  • Collect and record necessary data through patient interviews, significant other, observation, review of records, review of diagnostic results, review of physician documentation and consultation with physician and others.
  • Utilizes this information appropriately in planning and delivering patient care.
  • Aware of patient treatment needs in order to correlate physicians' orders to diagnosis.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the medication's actions, contraindications, and side effects before administering the medication.
  • Knowledgeable of Laboratory work-up and values related to diagnosis.
  • Demonstrates an ongoing, careful assessment of patient teaching needs, provides necessary teaching in an organized manner according to hospital policy, evaluates further needs, and appropriately documents teaching and patient response.
  • Effectively admits, transfers and discharges patients.
  • Consistently presents accurate and concise shift reports.
  • Evaluates nursing interventions in relation to established expected outcomes (goals).
