About The Position

Hartford HealthCare is a comprehensive healthcare network with over 40,000 colleagues. Backus Hospital, established in 1893, serves Eastern Connecticut and is home to the only trauma center and LIFE STAR helicopter services in the region. The A3 unit is a 30-bed Medical/Surgical unit that provides compassionate care to a varied patient population. The team utilizes Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols and is committed to excellence in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, using innovative technology and patient-centered care to promote healing. This role involves demonstrating clinical competence, utilizing the nursing process, and developing strong nurse-patient relationships. The nurse will assess patient problems, establish care plans, and implement and evaluate care.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of Nursing.
  • One (1) year RN experience and/or successful completion of the Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program.
  • Current unrestricted license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications within 90 days of hire.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain department specific certifications.
  • Basic knowledge of Nursing principles and practices.
  • Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions.
  • Communicates effectively in order to provide technical or complex information as well as instruction.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, managers and patients.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible and a team player.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Commitment to customer service.
  • Basic computer knowledge in order to enter/retrieve data.
  • Requires high level of analytical ability in order to gather and interpret information from various sources.
  • Able to take the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances, problems and/or emergency situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in this clinical area preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification and certification in clinical area preferred.

Responsibilities
