About The Position

The MICU/ SICU is a combined medical/ surgical/ oncology intensive care unit caring for patients requiring critical care intervention and monitoring. The team cares for patients with a wide variety of infectious disease, GI, cardiac, oncology complications and respiratory conditions who require ventilator support and invasive pressure monitoring. The Registered Nurse provides direct care to patients and makes necessary nursing judgments. They are responsible for systematically assessing the health care needs of individuals or groups and for the formulation of a care plan, its implementation and evaluation. The nurse demonstrates the ability for decision making by integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience in caring for patients and coordinates the care of patients, directing assistive personnel to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable and timely, patient-centered care.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
1-3 years related work experience required.
License Registered Nurse required.
American Heart Association – Basic Life support Certificate required.
Ability to make decisions that are guided by general instructions and practices requiring some interpretation.
Ability to address problems that are varied, requiring analysis or interpretation of the situation using direct observation, knowledge and skills based on general precedents.
Ability to follow precedents and procedures. May set priorities and organize work within general guidelines. Seeks assistance when confronted with difficult and/or unpredictable situations. Work progress is monitored by supervisor/manager.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written English with internal and external customers.
Ability to comprehend and converse in English to communicate effectively with medical center staff, patients, families and external customers.
Ability to demonstrate full working knowledge of standard concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
Ability to act as a team leader for small projects or work groups, creating a collaborative and respectful team environment and improving workflows.
Ability to provide a high level of customer service to patients, visitors, staff and external customers in a professional, service-oriented, respectful manner using skills in active listening and problem solving.
Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
Competent to provide patient care to Neonatal: Birth to 6 months, Young adult: 16-30 years, Middle Age: 30 - 60 years, Elderly: 60 - over.

Nice To Haves

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
