Located in Lakewood, Colorado, St. Anthony Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center where they provide a full range of medical specialties and health care services to Denver and the surrounding region through their state-of-the-art medical campus and home base for Flight For Life® Colorado. With four trauma rooms including the T-10 room, a dedicated field-to-surgery suite ready 24/7 for trauma surgeons and specially trained teams, their staff can provide life-saving care to the most severely ill and injured patients. In 2023, they received their Magnet® designation. Numerous other awards, certifications, and accreditations have been granted to them from the American Heart Association; Chest Pain Center (CPC); American College of Cardiology; The Joint Commission’s National Quality Approval; the Emergency Nurses Association Lantern Award; NAPBC Accreditation; American College of Radiology and many others. At St. Anthony Hospital, they combine a heritage of expert care with the latest in technology and innovation. The 1E Med-Surg/Observation Unit at St. Anthony Hospital is a 22-bed department with a volume of more than 300 patients a month (usually 300 to 310). This unit is a new concept unit with a combination of both observation (14 beds) status and inpatient status (8 beds) patients. Their observation beds take a variety of patients requiring further time to be observed from the ED. If a patient needs further testing or monitoring and is not appropriate to stay in the ED, then their department will take them. The top two diagnoses are chest pain and abdominal pain. They also accept patients that are sent from surrounding free standing EDs with the same criteria. When a patient requires care longer than 24-48 hours, they will transfer to an inpatient status and move to one of their inpatient beds or another inpatient unit in their hospital. The department’s mission is to deliver safe quality care to every patient in a timely manner. Many join this team because they have an interest in emergency medicine. This department is a great place to solidify med/surg skills, develop excellent time management and gain a better understanding of both emergency room patients and med/surg inpatients. Nurses will have the opportunity to provide care to all types of patients and work alongside a mid-level provider (PA or NP) with every patient. They are a close-knit team with a solid positive team culture. They experience incredible opportunities to learn about many different disease processes with their patient population. Their goal is to help their team members achieve their nursing goals and help them attain education and or certification. They look for candidates who are open, willing to ask questions, flexible with schedule, able to see the broader picture and are fast learners. This is a very fast-paced department as they admit and discharge patients on every shift. Nurses who work here must be adaptable to change and willing to work hard as they will be very busy every shift on this unit. As an RN, you will assume responsibility for facilitating, communicating, and collaborating with the healthcare team and patient/family to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the patient, advancing modern nursing through compassionate care. Requirements

Qualified external applicants with at least six months of direct RN experience
Associates Degree in Nursing; Nursing Diploma or by endorsement
Active and unencumbered RN License in state of employment
Physical Requirements: Medium Work exert/lift up to 50 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. frequently, and/or up to 10lbs. constantly
One year RN experience

Responsibilities

Assess patient’s physical, psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs through observation, interview, review of medical records & clinical data.
Evaluates patient’s response and intervenes to ensure optimal patient outcome.
Develop and implement patient plan of care and observe outcomes in accordance with nursing standards and in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrate competency in a variety of therapeutic/diagnostic interventions including, but not limited to, IV’s, incision/wound care, medication administration, catheterization, and specimen collections.
Thorough and confidential maintenance of patient charts and records.
Document ongoing status, interventions, patient response and outcomes in an accurate, timely manner.
Use information technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making.
Promote, advocate, and collaborate to protect the health and safety and rights of each patient.
Provide patient/family education through assessment of patient/family learning readiness, needs, and ability.
