About The Position

This Registered Nurse position on the Med Surg Medical 1 (4 West) unit is a part-time night shift role. The Registered Nurse works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager and Director, responsible for the comprehensive nursing care of assigned patients. This includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, utilizing critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills to address physiological, psychosocial, and cultural needs. The RN also supervises and delegates tasks to non-professional staff to ensure optimal patient care and demonstrates competence in age-related patient needs. The role involves working within a multi-disciplinary team and adhering to the standards of excellence set by Riverside Health System.

Requirements

  • Program Graduate, Nursing (Nursing Diploma is minimum education requirement, Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Nursing accepted in lieu of Nursing Diploma)
  • High School Diploma or GED, HS Diploma/GED only required if Nursing Diploma Graduate
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) or licensed in a compact state Upon Hire
  • CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire

Responsibilities

  • Assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs according to standards of practice for the specialty or patient population.
  • Partner with patients and families to develop, implement, and evaluate plans of care, treatments, and procedures to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Incorporate evidence-based standards of practice and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team for care coordination.
  • Facilitate safe patient transitions to the next level of care.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughput and ensure consistent, competent, and ethical care.
  • Focus on quality patient outcomes when addressing service needs.
  • Demonstrate understanding of diverse patient care populations and modify education methods accordingly.
  • Coordinate and deliver individualized patient education and discharge-specific education to family/caregivers, evaluating comprehension and documenting.
  • Accurately complete all required clinical and quality documentation per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence.
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations.
  • Evaluate resources and support needed and use systems to ensure needs are met.
