About The Position

The Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in Houston, Texas, is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Long-Term Care unit. This facility is one of the largest hospitals operated by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, serving a large region of Texas. The hospital is situated on a 118-acre campus and is accredited by JCAHO. It features 343 hospital beds, a 40-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, and a 120-bed transitional care unit for long-term care. Requirements

  • Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Must possess a current, valid, unrestricted nursing license in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
  • Must have a minimum of 12 months' experience.
  • Must have at least one year of recent experience in Long-Term Care/Skilled Nursing Facility.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as approved by the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory for all specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care including assessments, medication administration, wound care, and monitoring of vital signs.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Support patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility assistance.
  • Monitor changes in residents' physical and mental health and promptly report concerns to the medical team.
  • Provide emotional support to veterans and their families, particularly in palliative and hospice care settings.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with VA policies and electronic health record standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control, and safety protocols.
