About The Position

The 2700 Unit at Unity Hospital is a 22-bed, moderate-high acuity medical-surgical telemetry unit, specializing in complex care for patients with cardiac conditions and medical comorbidities. It provides exceptional, patient-centered care to a diverse population with both acute and chronic conditions. This unit offers opportunities for nurses to develop advanced treatment skills in areas such as cardiac and telemetry care, complex wound care, medication management (including drips and PCA), and drug and alcohol withdrawal stabilization. Nurses work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, social workers, surgeons, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, and wound care experts. The unit emphasizes a strong team dynamic, nurse autonomy, empowerment, and workplace wellness. Comprehensive onboarding, mentorship, and a Nurse Residency Program are available, along with advanced telemetry training. This role is part of the Registered Nurse Level IV / Clinical Nurse IV program which requires completion of a Clinical Ladder binder, participation in Leadership, Quality, and Organizational Contribution pillars, continuing education units, and flex items.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a registered nurse.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • RN - Registered Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)
  • Complete the Clinical Ladder binder within 12 months of employment
  • Minimum of 5 activities in each Pillar (Leadership, Quality, and Organizational Contribution)
  • 15 Continuing education units (CEU's)
  • 20 Flex items

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing assessment of the patient; demonstrate exceptional clinical judgment and advanced assessment skills; communicate and document assessment with interdisciplinary team; utilize all available resources in order to meet the needs of the patient and family
  • Develop and document plan of care, treatment and services; collaborate interdisciplinary health team to deliver care; maintains an appropriate nurse-patient relationship and provides an exceptional experience for the patient and family
  • Evaluate, communicate and document patient responses to care; revise plan of care based on ongoing evaluations; ensure the patient receives and understands education/training specific to their needs and abilities
  • Provide training for new team members on the unit; assume role of teacher for nursing students and other students shadowing on the unit; act as a resource for other team members for both clinical and non-clinical matters
