We have a new opening for a Registered Nurse - Lactation Consultant at Nellis AFB in North Las Vegas, NV. This role involves collaborating with healthcare professionals to provide patient care, ensuring optimal outcomes in clinical care, quality, and cost-effectiveness. The position requires ensuring compliance with established policies and guidelines, performing physical exams, providing health promotions and counseling, administering medications and wound care, and coordinating care with other healthcare professionals. A key responsibility is assessing patient needs related to feeding methods, risks, and benefits, and recognizing and reacting to adverse signs and symptoms. The role also involves communicating and collaborating with diverse groups to inform the healthcare team, arrange specialty care, and conduct research to improve practice and patient outcomes. Specific duties include performing comprehensive lactation assessments for mothers and infants, providing care to perinatal mothers, assessing for normal/abnormal anatomy related to breastfeeding, creating a learning environment for staff, conducting bedside lactation rounds, and integrating various aspects of breastfeeding into practice. The Lactation Consultant will act as an advocate for breastfeeding in the community and healthcare settings, maintain client records, consult with mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties, and participate in decision-making within the Birthing Center and Pediatric Clinic. They will also refer mothers for breast pump rentals, plan and conduct in-service education for maternity nursing staff, and deliver lactation management services to both inpatient and outpatient patients. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential for accurate documentation, both written and electronic. The role includes receiving inpatient reports, being reachable via cell phone, leading the facility's Breastfeeding Task Force, rounding on inpatient mothers, and responding to staff and patient needs. While LaLeche League is active, involvement is voluntary and does not interfere with patient care or work hours. Chart audits and tracking breastfeeding statistics are also required.
