About The Position

We have a new need for a Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery, at the Naval Medical Center San Diego, California. This role involves coordinating patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals, facilitating the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality, and cost-effectiveness. The nurse will ensure compliance with standards of care and practice, perform physical exams and health histories, and provide health promotions, counseling, and education. Responsibilities include administering medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions. The role may involve providing clinical direction or assisting in the instruction of care provided by other healthcare professionals, but not serving as Charge Nurse. The nurse will provide clinical direction for making patient care assignments based on scope of practice and skill level, recognize adverse signs and symptoms, and react quickly in emergency situations. Communication and collaboration with a diverse group of people are essential for informing the healthcare team, teaching, and educating patients and families. The role also includes making referral appointments, arranging specialty care, performing nursing services, and conducting research to support improved practice and patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year of post-grad RN clinical labor and delivery experience within the past three years.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN license from any state.
  • Maintain current AHA or ARC BLS, NRP, Fetal Heart Monitoring Certifications.
  • Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical exam and health histories.
  • Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.
  • Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
  • Provide clinical direction or assist in the instruction of care provided by other healthcare professionals within scope of clinical privileges or responsibilities.
  • Provide clinical direction for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel.
  • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
  • Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
  • Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.
  • Perform nursing services identified in the unit.
  • Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes.
