The Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery reports to the Unit Manager, in direct partnership with the Director of Nursing. This role is responsible for coordinating and ensuring the total nursing care of assigned patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and documentation. The position provides direct care to expectant mothers and newborns throughout childbirth, monitoring vital signs, administering medications, coaching the mother, and offering emotional support. This nurse cares for the patient and infant during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum phase, collaborating with the care team to manage complications and ensure a safe birth experience.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Arkansas RN license & CPR, required.
  • ACLS and NRP within 90 days of hire.
  • Stable required within 1 year of hire.
  • This position is available to experienced nurses only.

  • Previous experience in women’s health, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a comprehensive and accurate patient assessment using evidence-based assessment tools
  • Provide nursing care according to plan, including physical and emotional support to mothers during labor, birth, and the immediate postpartum period, and perform nursing skills in a competent and safe manner.
  • Continuously monitor the vital signs and well-being of both the mother and the fetus.
  • Identify changes in patient’s condition and report appropriately to provider.
  • Administer medications and pain relief as ordered by provider, assist with procedures, and respond to obstetric emergencies as trained and assigned.
  • Work closely with obstetricians and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate care.
  • Educate expectant mothers and their families on labor, delivery, and newborn care.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for both the mother and infant.
  • Prepare and maintain delivery rooms and equipment.
  • Participate in unit specific quality improvement and process improvement projects.
