About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for our Labor and Delivery unit. This role involves providing comprehensive care to patients throughout antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, including full couplet care. The nurse will be responsible for managing a variety of procedures and patient needs within the LDRP model, including vaginal births, C-sections, antenatal testing, post-op GYN care, external cephalic version, and antepartum patient management. The position requires flexibility to float within the LDRP unit and potentially to other departments, units, and facilities as needed. This is a full-time position with specific weekend and holiday requirements, as well as on-call duties.

Requirements

  • 3 Years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • 3 Years of Community Hospital Experience preferred.
  • BLS certification.
  • FHM certification.
  • NRP certification.
  • IV therapy/Phlebotomy skills: Administration of blood & blood products, Drawing Venous Blood, Start & maintain peripheral IV, Use of infusion pumps / drips / IV monitoring.
  • Labor and Delivery Management skills: Amnioinfusion, Assist with vaginal delivery, Circulate for C-section, Forceps/vacuum extraction, Hemorrhage/shock, Recover C-Section, Sterile vaginal exam.
  • Medication & Administration skills: Antihypertensives, Magnesium Sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), Prostaglandins, Terbutaline.
  • Neonatal Care in Delivery Room skills: Collect cord samples, ID/Security Banding.
  • Newborn Care skills: Assist with Circumcision/Assess site post-op, Car Seat Education, Cord Care, Discharge teaching to parents, Infant Identification, Metabolic Screen, Newborn Assessment, Newborn hypoglycemia, Phototherapy, Teach Circumcision care to parents, Thermoregulation.
  • Antepartum Care and Procedures skills: NST (Non Stress Tests), Reflex checks / edema assessment / clonus, Sterile vaginal exam, Triage of obstetrical patients, Use of EFM (External Fetal Heart Monitoring).
  • Postpartum Care and Procedures skills: Baby friendly protocols, Breastfeeding Support/lactation support, Episiotomy/Incisional Care, Foley Catheter insertion, Fundus/lochia/perineum care, Use of Electric/Manual breast pump, Wound Assessment and Care.
  • Postpartum Care of the Patient with skills: Bladder Distension, Cesarean Section, Couplet Care, Multiple Births, Postpartum Hemorrhage, Pregnancy induced hypertension, Vaginal Delivery.
  • Surgical Case/Procedures skills: D & C, Tubal Ligation.
  • Pain Management skills: Epidural Anesthesia, General Anesthesia, Opioids, Pain assessment & management, Use of PCA (IV).
  • Professional Topics and Skills: Isolation Precautions/PPE, Vaccine Administration.
  • Fetal Monitoring skills: Recognition and Treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, Spiral Electrode Placement, Use of External Fetal Monitoring, Use of Internal Fetal Monitoring, Use of IUPC (Intrauterine pressure catheter) placement and calibration.
  • Additional Skills: Post operative gynecology (hysterectomy) care.
  • Must have home address at least 75 miles from the facility.
  • Must be able to work weekend rotation: 4-6 weekend shifts (Sat/Sun) AND 2 Friday's per 6-week schedule.
  • Must work 1 major holiday (Thanksgiving or Christmas) and 1-2 minor holidays (New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day).
  • Must be able to work 2 mandatory on-call shifts each 6-week schedule period.
  • RN is expected to care for any patient assignment within the LDRP unit (triage, c-section case, including circulating, antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum).
  • Regular floating may be required between departments, units and facilities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients.
  • Perform full couplet care.
  • Manage vaginal births and C-sections.
  • Conduct antenatal testing (NSTs, BPP).
  • Provide post-operative gynecological care.
  • Assist with External Cephalic Version.
  • Care for antepartum patients.
  • Administer medications including antihypertensives, Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, Prostaglandins, Terbutaline, Anticoagulants, and Anticonvulsants.
  • Perform neonatal care in the delivery room, including collecting cord samples, ID/Security banding, APGAR scores, neonatal resuscitation, and thermoregulation.
  • Provide newborn care, including circumcision assessment, car seat education, cord care, discharge teaching, infant identification, metabolic screening, newborn assessment, hypoglycemia management, phototherapy, and teaching circumcision care.
  • Perform antepartum care and procedures such as NSTs, reflex checks, sterile vaginal exams, and triage of obstetrical patients.
  • Provide postpartum care and procedures including Baby Friendly protocols, breastfeeding support, episiotomy/incisional care, Foley catheter insertion, fundus/lochia/perineum care, breast pump use, and wound assessment.
  • Manage postpartum patients with complications such as bladder distension, Cesarean Section, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and those who have had vaginal deliveries.
  • Assist with surgical cases/procedures including D&C and Tubal Ligation.
  • Manage patient pain through epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia, opioids, and PCA use.
  • Adhere to isolation precautions and PPE guidelines.
  • Administer vaccines.
  • Perform fetal monitoring, including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, spiral electrode placement, and use of external and internal fetal monitoring devices.
  • Provide post-operative care for gynecology patients (e.g., hysterectomy).
  • Circulate for C-sections and assist with vaginal deliveries.
  • Recover C-sections.
  • Perform sterile vaginal exams.
  • Manage hemorrhage/shock.
  • Perform Amnioinfusion.
  • Assist with high-risk deliveries.
  • Scrub for C-sections.
  • Manage infant/neonatal arrest and utilize the Rapid Response team.
  • Float within scope to meet facility needs, including triage, C-section cases (circulating), antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum assignments within the LDRP unit.
  • Float between departments, units, and facilities as needed.
