About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The role involves providing comprehensive care in an inpatient intrapartum setting. Contracted personnel are expected to maintain a high level of productivity, participate in performance improvement activities, and adhere to infection control and safety guidelines. The position requires functioning with an awareness of legal issues in patient care, participating in the Family Advocacy Program, and maintaining accountability for professional practice. Continuous education and annual training, including disaster training, infection control, and MHS GENESIS, are mandatory. The nurse will operate automated systems like MHS GENESIS and Clinical Information System (CIS), participate in performance improvement and risk management functions, and maintain a DOD email account. Clinical delegation of tasks and accurate documentation of patient care are essential. The role is designated as mission essential.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree of Nursing
  • Graduate from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an RN working in an inpatient intrapartum (Labor and Delivery) setting within the last two (2) years.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse as required in the Task Order.
  • US Citizen

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and/or clinical direction as applicable to supporting government employees.
  • Attend and participate in various meetings as directed.
  • Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care.
  • Operate and manipulate automated systems such as ADS, MHS GENESIS and Clinical Information System (CIS).
  • Participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions.
  • Maintain DOD email account as directed and be responsive to all email and voicemail communications.
  • Exercise appropriate clinical delegation of tasks and duties in the clinical direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities.
  • Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required.
