About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Interventional Radiology department. This full-time position involves caring for patients before, during, and after specialized procedures that utilize X-rays, MRI, and CT scans. The role requires collaboration with other healthcare professionals to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery, aligning with hospital objectives and the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Tennessee. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and administering patient care within their scope of practice. Requirements

  • Registered Nurse license.
  • Relevant Work Experience.
  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program.
  • Conscious sedation experience.
  • Experience interpreting rhythms.
  • Ability to insert IV lines.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, organizing, and administering patient care within the scope of training and expertise.
  • Collaborating with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.
  • Caring for patients before, during, and after specialized procedures that use X-rays, MRI, and CT scans.
  • Administering conscious sedation and monitoring vital signs during procedures.
  • Managing the patient's airway during procedures.
  • Maintaining a sterile field, anticipating the radiologist's tool needs, and documenting procedure details.
  • Monitoring the puncture site for bleeding, managing pain, and tracking vital signs post-procedure.
  • Providing discharge education to patients.
  • Acting quickly to manage sudden complications such as allergic reactions to contrast dye or bleeding.
  • Collaborating in establishing the plan of care, coordinating and implementing care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzing comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continuously utilizing the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applying appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employing strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
  • Assisting in the Nuclear Med area as needed.
  • Performing primary care patient interviews, assessing the safety of the home environment and performing a comprehensive physical assessment (in home care context, though this role is IR).
  • Recognizing problems, asking questions, and contacting the patient's primary care provider (in home care context).
  • Providing patient education.
  • Anticipating resource needs, identifying distinct tasks, setting priorities, scheduling activities, meeting deadlines, and organizing work within areas of direct responsibility.
