About The Position

This is a full-time night shift position for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Texas Health HEB. The ICU is an 18-bed Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit that specializes in Trauma, Neurosurgical, and Cardiovascular patient care. The unit offers opportunities to train in high acuity skills such as Intra-aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Targeted Temperature Management, Impella, and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT). Nurses on this unit will have opportunities for professional growth, career development, and outstanding support. The unit is fast-paced and high-acuity, with 24/7 Intensivist coverage providing exceptional pulmonary critical care patient oversight. The professional nurse demonstrates recognition and understanding of patient’s affiliations. National Certification Preparation and Courses are offered, as well as test reimbursement/bonus. There is strong nurse/doctor collaboration, and the unit is looking to expand its Neurosurgery and Cardiac Surgery service lines. Texas Health HEB is a 296-bed, acute-care, full-service hospital serving its community since 1973, offering services including women’s services, outpatient surgery, oncology, cardiac rehabilitation, and emergency medicine. It is an accredited Cycle IV Chest Pain Center, a Level III neonatal intensive care unit, and provides nuclear medicine, neonatal intensive care, respiratory therapy, and orthopedic medicine. Texas Health HEB is Joint Commission-certified in Heart Failure and Chest Pain, a Primary Stroke Center, a Level III Trauma Center, and a designated Baby Friendly facility.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma required; BSN preferred
  • Must comply with CLIA regulations regarding foreign education equivalency
  • RN - Registered Nurse Upon Hire required
  • BCLS – prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly required
  • ACLS – within 90 days required
  • NIHSS – within 30 days of hire
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Training – within 90 days of hire
  • 1 Year Experience as a clinical nurse or completion of an RN residency program required

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • Current ICU experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process
  • Assesses the patient
  • Plans the care of the patient
  • Intervenes as appropriate
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
