About The Position

Sentara RMH Medical Center is hiring a registered nurse for the Critical Care Unit. This position is ideal for candidates who have experience or an interest in providing care for medical/surgical ICU patients and cardiothoracic surgical patients. A sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 is available, and relocation assistance is provided to those who meet the specified criteria. The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas. Sentara RMH Medical Center, a Magnet designated hospital located in Harrisonburg VA, serves a seven-county area with a population of 218,000 residents, employing 2600 locals. Responsibilities

  • Performing a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Adhering to the standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation).
  • Following the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health).
  • Utilizing clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.
  • Participating in the 10-week Transition to Practice/Nurse Residency Program (for new graduates, this is the start of a comprehensive 6-month residency program).
  • Engaging in formal delivery of fundamental critical care nursing concepts and standards via foundational ECCO (Essentials of Critical Care Orientation from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN)) modules blended with in-person sessions utilizing case studies, gaming, simulation, and skills labs.
  • Gaining exposure to Sentara policies and evidence-based practice guidelines as recommended by the AACN.
  • Receiving hands-on experience in the intensive care unit alongside a trained nurse preceptor.
  • Participating in opportunities to share experiences/networking with peers in a safe, protected environment.
  • Attending a series of virtual professional development sessions with mentoring (optional for experienced nurses).
