IHR/PRN Registered Nurse Inpatient-Delnor Orthopedic Oncology Unit As Needed Nights
About The Position
The Registered Nurse Inpatient is a clinically competent, registered professional nurse who prescribes, delegates, and coordinates nursing care for acutely ill patients through assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse interacts effectively with patients, significant others, and other health team members while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice and following Northwestern Medicine policies, ethics, compliance requirements, and applicable regulatory and accreditation standards. The minimum commitment is four 12-hour shifts, from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., within each six-week scheduling period. The position is designated as as-needed night work in the Delnor Orthopedic Oncology Unit.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse licensure.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with others.
- Strong analytic abilities.

Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized plans, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
- Direct care and determine the appropriate utilization of assistants involved in direct patient care.
- Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff; create a documented plan focused on outcomes and service-delivery decisions, reflecting communication with patients, families, and others.
- Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
- Evaluate and document patients’ responses to nursing interventions in the health record and individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings.
- Use the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
