About The Position
The Registered Nurse Inpatient is a clinically competent, registered professional nurse who provides nursing care to acutely ill patients through assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The nurse interacts effectively with patients, significant others, and other health team members while maintaining the American Nurses Association standards of professional nursing practice. The role reflects Northwestern Medicine’s mission, vision, and values and complies with its Code of Ethics, Corporate Compliance Program, applicable policies and procedures, and regulatory and accreditation standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to collaborate with others.
- Strong analytical abilities.

- Experience in acute care inpatient nursing.
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement individualized plans, coordinate care delivery, and evaluate progress toward outcomes.
- Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of assistants involved in providing direct patient care.
- Collaborate with patients, families, physicians, and ancillary staff; create a documented, outcome-focused plan that records communications and care-delivery decisions.
- Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
- Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record, and individualize the plan of care based on evaluation findings.
- Use the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
