About The Position

Join the nationally known American Family Children’s Hospital as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Inpatient Pediatric Float Pool. This 60% FTE position involves floating across multiple departments within the hospital to cover sick leaves, unit acuity changes, and leave of absences. You will care for highly complex, critically ill pediatric patients in areas such as Neonatal ICU, Pediatric ICU, Pediatric Intermediate/Complex Care Unit, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, and Pediatric General Medical/Surgical. The role requires providing care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and families coping with complex medical diagnoses. You will utilize critical thinking skills to evaluate and assess patients, recognize and escalate complications, and safely administer nursing interventions and advanced life support therapies, all while demonstrating a commitment to patient and family-centered care. This position offers opportunities to partner with multidisciplinary teams, serve as a mentor and role model, orient new nurses, work with nursing students, and participate in strategic planning, quality improvement, and Shared Governance.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact.
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification.
  • Six (6) months nursing experience or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Relevant RN Experience.
  • PALS within 12 months of hire.
  • Relevant Certification.

  • Provide care to neonates, infants, children, adolescents and families, coping with complex medical diagnosis and disease processes.
  • Provide high-quality, evidence-based care utilizing critical thinking skills to evaluate and assess patients, recognize and escalate complications, and safely administer appropriate nursing interventions and advanced life support therapies.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to patient and family centered nursing care.
  • Partner with dynamic multidisciplinary teams of nurses, nursing assistants, coordinated care roles, therapists, advanced practice providers, medical teams, and more.
  • Hone interpersonal communication skills and effectively delegate tasks as necessary.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model with opportunities to orient nurses who are new to the Pediatric Float Pool and work with nursing students.
  • Have the opportunity to be involved in strategic planning efforts, quality improvement, and Shared Governance.
