About The Position

Join UW Health | Carbone Cancer Center, the only comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin designated by the National Cancer Institute, as a Registered Nurse. This role is on a 41-bed inpatient unit specializing in hematology, oncology, stem cell transplant, and palliative care. You will care for acutely ill patients undergoing complex treatments such as bone marrow, stem cell transplant, and cellular therapies (CAR T), as well as patients at end of life. The unit manages patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumor cancers, often dealing with complications like Graft-Versus-Host Disease. This position offers the opportunity to administer chemotherapy, assist with procedures, manage central lines and ports, and perform comprehensive patient assessments. You will be involved in cutting-edge, evidence-based therapies and research, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and lead practice change, with formal education provided to become an expert oncology RN.

Requirements

  • Six (6) months nursing experience in Inpatient Units and Central Float (Adult & Pediatric), Venous Access Team (VAT), Radiology, Hemodialysis, Cardiovascular Laboratory or current participant in UW Health’s Nurse Residency Program with successful completion of the Nurse Residency Orientation on unit/similar unit.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact.
  • Current CPR/BLS Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for acutely ill patients, including those undergoing bone marrow, stem cell transplant and cellular therapies (CAR T), as well as patients at end of life.
  • Administer chemotherapy, assist with stem cell transplant procedures, bone marrow biopsies, administer blood products, access central lines and ports, and perform head to toe assessments for patients.
  • Be involved in cutting edge, evidence-based therapies and research studies to improve patient outcomes.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and lead practice change.
  • Receive formal education classes in hematologic malignancies, oncologic emergencies, stem cell transplant, palliative care, and chemotherapy certification.
