The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to infusion patients. This role requires excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize patient and practice needs. The nurse will occasionally work in emergent patient care situations requiring critical thinking and prompt assessment skills. Responsibilities include performing age-related patient assessments and interventions, as well as scheduling tests and interventions as ordered by a provider. The RN will utilize the professional nursing process to provide individualized nursing care to patients across the age continuum in the infusion care setting. Collaboration with inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, is essential for planning, implementing, and evaluating care. The nurse must demonstrate competency and practice within the full scope of nursing expertise and knowledge, utilizing appropriate age and population-specific standards. The role functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of practice and licensure, and is founded on the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association.
