About The Position

The RN Infusion provides infusion therapy to patients at the competent level utilizing the principles and practices of nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results. The RN Infusion communicates with attending faculty and collaborates with members of the infusion suite team which includes midlevel providers, nurses, and pharmacist to help develop an appropriate plan of care for the patient and family.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or Nursing License Compact.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum of one year of nursing experience required.
  • Current South Carolina RN License or multi-state Nursing License Compact and BLS required.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
  • Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
  • Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors.

  • Requires familiarity with both IDX and EMR.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates care for infusion patients.
  • Functions as a liaison between registration staff and clinical staff to facilitate the efficient flow of patients throughout the system.
  • Confers with physicians regarding need, urgency, and appropriateness of infusion and clinic visits, ancillaries if needed.
  • Assesses and reviews physician orders to assist with scheduling patients in a timely fashion.
  • Manages comprehensive nursing care for patients whose needs range from uncomplicated to complex and rapidly changing.
  • Organizes and prioritizes nursing care activities considering the needs of the patients and other staff members.
  • Coordinates and manages care by applying analytical reasoning, reflection, rational problem solving skills, using evidence based information and clinical judgment.
  • Functions as a patient/family advocate.
  • Collaborates with physicians to monitor, evaluate and trend patient responses to treatments during duration of status as a patient.
  • Work with support staff to maximize efficiency in infusion scheduling.
  • Document all patient care activities in the electronic medical record to include disposition of patient telephone calls, medication list, etc.
  • Generates ancillary requests in practice partner and updates medicines as needed in EMR (electronic medical record).
  • Participates in performance improvement /research activities designed to improve patient care, and/or organizational processes.
