City of Hope is hiring a Registered Nurse to coordinate the new intake pathway for undiagnosed breast patients at its Zion and Morton Grove breast care centers. The nurse assesses, coordinates, plans, monitors, implements, and evaluates patients’ plans of care to support optimal quality and clinical outcomes, and provides direct and indirect professional nursing care. The role also assists with breast biopsies in the Mammography, Ultrasound, and MRI departments at the Zion site. The Imaging Nurse Navigator abstracts relevant medical history and ensures required documentation is complete and available. Under the radiologist’s direction, the nurse facilitates patient education across imaging modalities, ensures biopsy orders are correct and scheduled in the recommended modality, and tracks prior biopsies and outside films, including surgical markers. The nurse assists with biopsies and related procedural charting in Epic, including consent and time-out documentation; work may also involve documenting medications, supplies, and implants, and pulling intra-procedure medications from Pyxis. The nurse educates patients after biopsies, gathers results, and may attend follow-up consultations. The role includes calling non-oncology patients with biopsy results and explaining the care pathway. The nurse also collaborates with clinic and surgical teams to develop a breast drain process for post-operative breast and axillary seromas and educates patients about output and removal. As part of the Imaging healthcare team, the nurse performs duties in accordance with facility policies, regulatory requirements, and nursing best practices, including limited central-line care, procedure assistance, and medication administration. This is an onsite position at the Zion site, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with no call and no holidays.
