About The Position

SWVMHI in Marion, VA (Smyth County) is recruiting a Registered Nurse II to join its dedicated and talented Nursing Service Team. This position involves working 12-hour shifts from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., including working at least every other weekend. The role requires demonstrated ability to collaborate with an interdisciplinary treatment team, implement effective Nursing Care Plans, and provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric populations. Responsibilities include medication administration, infection prevention, client education, medical record documentation, and managing conflict and crises. The position also requires computer skills for documentation and communication, the ability to assess and respond to safety concerns, and adherence to scheduling requirements, including potential overtime during staffing emergencies. The role involves working in a secure and locked environment with individuals experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness, ID/DD, and/or forensic/legal involvement. Physical requirements include repetitious walking/standing, bending, lifting, and reaching overhead for tasks such as transferring individuals and assisting with daily living activities.

Requirements

Licensed Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia or applicant status.

Nice To Haves

Supervisory experience with knowledge of performance management and evaluation processes.
Experience working with individuals with mental illness, forensic, geriatric, and/or substance abuse issues.
Supervisory experience and competency in Charge Nurse role.
Computer skills, including use of electronic health record.

Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with successful outcomes with an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Implement an effective Nursing Care Plan as part of an integrated interdisciplinary Comprehensive Treatment Plan.
Provide care appropriate to adult and geriatric populations, including client care treatments, wound prevention, and falls prevention.
Administer medications, assess effectiveness and provide education to client and/or family safely and efficiently.
Perform infection prevention and control practices and appropriately apply standards in daily activities.
Communicate effectively orally, in writing, and electronically with clients, families, and other customers.
Complete medical record documentation and satisfactorily "hand-off" information to other caregivers.
Demonstrate successful interventions to manage conflict, including crises and aggressive behavior.
Motivate others and work effectively in a constantly changing environment.

Utilize computer skills for document development, learning tools, and electronic communication.
Assess and respond to safety concerns by utilizing hearing and vision.
Adhere to scheduling requirements and work overtime in a staffing emergency.
