Requirements
- Registered Nurse II, Oncology is a Registered Nurse who delivers direct care to assigned Oncology patients in an ambulatory setting.
- Nursing care is delivered using standards of care by following approved policies and procedures.
- Utilizing appropriate decision making skills exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment.
- The Clinical Nurse II, Oncology establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice.
Responsibilities
- Assesses appropriately patient care needs and learning needs in routine oncology patient populations.
- Reviews lab diagnostic data and incorporates in assessment
- Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) monitoring to maintain or improve care of Oncology patient population
- Plans patient care and education based on disease process, anticipated patient outcomes, complications of treatment, and psycho-social needs in collaboration with other healthcare team members
- Initiates and follows through with appropriate referrals to other interdisciplinary healthcare team members
- Demonstrates competency in use of technical skills as required (i.e., IV therapy equipment utilization, universal precautions, body mechanics)
- Establish IV access utilizing peripheral or central catheters per protocol. Drug should only be prepared once an IV access is established and labs verified
- Administer IV therapy as ordered by MD
- Assists as a chaperone when needed upon completion of the required Chaperone Training
