RN II Per Diem - Immunization Mobile Vaccine Team
About The Position
The Department of Public Health (DPH), Communicable Disease Section, is seeking Registered Nurses II- Per Diem to support the Immunizations Mobile Vaccine Team (MVT) or the Wellness on Wheels (WOW) Project. RN IIs on the MVT will administer routine immunizations to eligible individuals, coordinate with schools for clinics, manage consent and eligibility documentation, record doses in the state immunization registry (CAIR2), and notify primary care providers. They will also assist with clinic setup/teardown, maintain vaccine inventory and temperature tracking, prepare supplies, and provide vaccine education. Additional duties may include supporting Perinatal Hepatitis B case management and other program needs. RN IIs on the WOW Project will provide mobile clinical services including STI/HIV testing, risk assessments, specimen collection, and field-based treatment. They will help develop standard practices, train staff, ensure compliance with testing protocols, maintain clinical records, coordinate with healthcare teams, support outbreak response, and cover Public Health Clinic Nurses as needed. These per diem positions typically involve 30-40 hours per week.
Requirements
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing (CA BRN)
- Valid Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate (Course Completion Card) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Six (6) months of full-time equivalent experience performing duties as a licensed RN, including administering vaccines and/or STI/HIV testing.

- Fluency in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, Spanish and/or Vietnamese
Responsibilities
- Administer routine immunizations to eligible children, adolescents, and adults.
- Coordinate directly with schools to schedule clinics.
- Ensure proper consent and eligibility documentation.
- Record doses in the state immunization registry (CAIR2).
- Notify primary care providers when applicable.
- Assist with event setup and teardown.
- Maintain vaccine inventory, including temperature tracking.
- Prepare necessary supplies.
- Provide vaccine education to parents, students, and school staff.
- Distribute Vaccines for Children (VFC) materials.
- Support other Immunization Program activities such as Perinatal Hepatitis B case management, educational sessions, and other program needs.
- Provide mobile clinical services across the county, including STI/HIV testing, risk assessments, specimen collection, and field-based treatment administration.
- Help develop standard practices, train staff, and ensure compliance with STI/HIV testing protocols.
- Maintain detailed clinical records.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Support emergency response efforts during outbreaks.
- Provide coverage for Public Health Clinic Nurses as needed.
