About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice. Ottumwa Regional Health Center provides a wide range of health services, including emergency medicine, critical care services, medical/surgical, acute rehabilitation, obstetrics, and pediatrics, as well as specialty services such as cardiac catheterization, diagnostic and therapeutic radiological services, wound care, pain clinic, sleep lab, pathology, and so much more. Ottumwa is a center for “cultural and commercial development” known for its low cost of living, abundant recreation and entertainment, and outstanding education and healthcare facilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program required with a current unencumbered Registered Nurse License in Iowa or from a Compact State.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Responsibilities

  • Performs plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care activities.
  • Documents patient care provided.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and psychosocial/spiritual support needs.
  • Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuing education.
  • Provides quality patient care and works flexible shifts or units as needed.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
