About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for their Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Clarksville, Tennessee. This full-time position involves planning, organizing, and administering patient care within the scope of nursing practice, in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The role contributes to effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes, adhering to hospital policies and the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Tennessee. The Vanderbilt Clarksville ICU is a 21-bed mixed medical/surgical adult unit providing intensive monitoring and treatment for patients with a wide range of diagnoses. The environment is described as challenging, team-oriented, and patient and family-centered, with opportunities for professional growth in critical thinking and ongoing education. The team includes Intensivists, advanced practice nurses, critical care nurses, and respiratory therapists, with daily multidisciplinary rounds and a SWAT team for bedside consults. Each shift begins with a safety huddle. The position requires a Registered Nurse license and offers 12 weeks of orientation for experienced nurses. The unit utilizes various medical equipment and requires clinical skills in hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and line/drain care. Professionalism, critical thinking, and collaboration are emphasized. New services include Neurosurgery. Drips managed include vasopressors, inotropes, and sedatives. Bedside procedures include central lines and chest tubes. Specialized competencies include Intra-Aortic Balloon pump and EVD management.

Requirements

  • LIC-Registered Nurse - Licensure-Others
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIH
  • ECG interpretation

Nice To Haves

  • 12 weeks of orientation is offered based on nursing experience for nurses with at least one year of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the continuum.
  • Analyzes comprehensive information pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine nursing diagnosis.
  • Continually utilizes the nursing process to evaluate patient's progress towards goals and applies appropriate interventions to ensure effective outcomes.
  • Employs strategies to promote health and a safe and healthy environment.
  • Administers patient care within the scope of his/her training and expertise.
  • Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes.
  • Responds to codes and Rapid Response Team (RRT) calls as the ICU charge nurse.
