About The Position

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a 7-bed Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit featuring private rooms equipped for comprehensive patient monitoring, including ECG, dialysis, SPO2, and hemodynamic pressure monitoring. Telemedicine intensivist services are available 24/7. The unit's skill mix includes Registered Nurses (RNs) and Patient Care Technicians. Management is provided by a Nurse Director and a Clinical Coordinator who oversee both the ICU and the Acute Care Unit. Staffing levels are adjusted based on patient acuity and volume per shift. This role integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to provide patient and family care, assist in illness prevention and wellness maintenance, and offer comfort. The position involves directing and educating others, and developing leadership skills at the unit level. Responsibilities include delivering and documenting age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying potential incompatibilities or interactions. Clinical Nurse I: Focuses on integrating technical skills and theoretical knowledge, assisting the healthcare team, providing direction and education, and delivering direct patient care. Safely administers medications. Clinical Nurse II: Demonstrates mastery of clinical skills, applies knowledge to specific patient populations, recognizes and intervenes in changing patient situations, mobilizes resources, provides direction and education, and assumes leadership responsibilities. Delivers and documents direct patient care and safely administers medications. Clinical Nurse III: Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge, applies knowledge to specific patient populations, anticipates and intervenes in patient situations, provides direction and education, and serves as a role model. Delivers and documents direct patient care and safely administers medications.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice (for Clin I)
  • Academic Health Care Experience; Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice (for Clin II, Clin III)
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program
  • Certification in specialty area (for Clin III)
