Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) - SJCH 8 Peds Acute Care
About The Position
The Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) works under general supervision at the advanced beginner level to provide individualized, goal-directed nursing care to patients and families using the principles and practices of the nursing process. The nurse collaborates with other members of the healthcare team to achieve desired outcomes. The position is based in 8ACU, a 28-bed medical-surgical inpatient unit on the eighth floor of Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital at the Medical University of South Carolina. The unit includes private rooms, negative-pressure isolation rooms, rooms with patient lifts, behavioral rooms, and beds available for inpatient rehabilitation. The staffing mix includes Registered Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, and Unit Secretaries. The schedule is 36 hours per week, consisting of three 12-hour shifts. Shifts rotate and vary based on departmental needs.
Requirements
- Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers or an AHA-recognized equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
- Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
- Ability to meet the listed physical and mental requirements, including standing, sitting, walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted, and working effectively in stressful situations.
