About The Position

Planned Parenthood Columbia Willamette (PPCW) is hiring a Registered Nurse to join our Northeast Specialty Services team in Portland, Oregon. This role involves providing compassionate care, supporting reproductive freedom, and making a difference in the community. Nurses at PPCW play an essential role by providing clinical expertise, patient education, and emotional support. As a Registered Nurse at the Northeast Specialty Services Health Center, you will work with a dedicated clinical team providing reproductive health services, including abortion care and other specialized procedures, ensuring patients feel informed, safe, respected, and supported. Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon, or appropriate licensure for the state of practice
  • Nursing education meeting applicable state licensure requirements
  • At least 1–6 months of nursing experience in a medical setting, or equivalent experience
  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and patient education skills
  • Ability to perform or develop proficiency in phlebotomy, IV placement and removal, medication administration, and ultrasound procedures
  • Ability to provide nursing support during procedural care, sedation, and recovery
  • Sound clinical judgment, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clinicians and other health center staff
  • Commitment to compassionate, inclusive, nonjudgmental reproductive health care
  • Support for Planned Parenthood's mission and commitment to patient autonomy

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in reproductive health, family planning, abortion care, or outpatient procedural services
  • Experience in surgical nursing, recovery care, or procedural sedation
  • Experience with ultrasound or gynecological procedures
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR)
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on clinical care, patient education, and support throughout the patient experience.
  • Assess patient needs, review medical histories, and provide nursing evaluations.
  • Educate and counsel patients about sexual and reproductive health, contraception, pregnancy options, and abortion care.
  • Support medication abortion services, including patient education and follow-up.
  • Assist clinicians with procedural services, including abortion care, vasectomy, and other reproductive health procedures.
  • Provide nursing care in surgical and recovery settings, including patient monitoring and support during sedation and analgesia.
  • Administer medications and injections, perform phlebotomy, and establish and remove IV access.
  • Perform laboratory testing and assist with ultrasound procedures as trained and authorized.
  • Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures, responding to their physical and emotional needs.
  • Coordinate referrals, follow-up care, and communication of test results.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Collaborate with clinicians and health center staff to ensure safe, efficient, patient-centered care.
  • Help maintain clinical standards, patient safety, and a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment.
