About The Position

Sentara is hiring an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the High-Risk Labor & Delivery Unit at Norfolk General Hospital, in Norfolk Virginia. This is a full-time, night shift position. The Labor and Delivery Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a Beacon Award-winning unit, recognized for providing comprehensive surgical and obstetrical care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Nurses are cross-trained to scrub, circulate, recover, and labor/deliver. The role is supported by a collaborative team of physicians, specialists, and staff, fostering a patient-centered approach. As a teaching hospital, there are opportunities for hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional growth. The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation. The RN also adheres to standards of professional performance such as ethics, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, resource utilization, and environmental health.

Requirements

  • RN Degree REQUIRED
  • Virginia RN or Compact Multi-State License REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire
  • NRP within 6 months of hire
  • PALS within 6 months of hire
  • BSN or MSN preferred
  • Meets and maintains any requirements defined by specific specialty; Critical Care/IMCU ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire.
  • Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire.
  • Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire.
  • All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Labor & Delivery experience STRONGLY PREFERRED
