About The Position

Indiana University Health is seeking passionate, experienced nurses to join their team and collaborate with top medical professionals. The Hospital-Based Outpatient Oncology/Non-Oncology Infusion Unit is a specialized treatment area providing safe, efficient, and patient-centered infusion therapy for both oncology and non-oncology needs. This unit operates under hospital clinical standards and regulatory requirements, offering convenient outpatient infusion care. The unit has six infusion chairs and provides services such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic therapy, IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, blood product administration, therapeutic injections, and symptom-management interventions. Treatments are administered by oncology-trained registered nurses following evidence-based guidelines and specialized procedures. The care team collaborates closely with various medical professionals to ensure coordinated treatment planning and continuity of care. The environment prioritizes comfort, safety, and privacy while maintaining efficient patient flow. Nurses are required to obtain a Chemotherapy/biotherapy provider certificate within 6 months of hire and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) certification within three years of hire, with organizational support provided.

Requirements

  • 1 year RN experience.
  • Graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program (exceptions may apply for those with >2 years acute care experience, subject to CNO approval).
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Responsibilities

  • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic therapy, IV hydration, electrolyte replacement, blood product administration, therapeutic injections, and symptom-management interventions.
  • Follow evidence-based guidelines and specialized medication-handling procedures.
  • Continuously monitor patients.
  • Collaborate with oncology providers, primary care physicians, specialists, and pharmacists for coordinated treatment planning.
  • Obtain a Chemotherapy/biotherapy provider certificate within 6 months of hire.
  • Obtain Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) certification within three years of hire.
