About The Position

South Shore Health is seeking a Full-time Registered Nurse for their Float Pool, working Day shifts. This role manages individualized, outcome-oriented nursing care through the nursing process, including assessment, planning, and providing care in accordance with departmental and hospital policies. The Float Pool RNs make an additional $5/hour "float bonus" and work a schedule of 7a-7p, 3x/week, every 3rd weekend, and every other holiday. Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • Previous Acute Care RN experience preferred
  • RN - Registered Nurse
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge, and skills

Responsibilities

  • Assesses and diagnoses patient and family needs to provide quality care.
  • Initiates admission assessment within 8 hours of admission and identifies patient/family teaching needs.
  • Develops, discusses, and communicates a prioritized problem list/plan of care for each patient in collaboration with support persons.
  • Evaluates and updates individualized plan of care for patients and documents outcomes.
  • Actively communicates plan of care with the primary nurse assigned to the patient.
  • Facilitates discharge/transfers by goal of 12:00 pm, communicating barriers utilizing the Chain of Command.
  • Documents all patient care following department of nursing policies, unit-based standards, and nurse-sensitive indicators (falls, skin pain).
  • Assesses/re-assesses and documents patient's level of comfort utilizing the appropriate pain scale and the patient's response to interventions.
  • Works on behalf of patient/family and seeks help to represent them when unable to represent themselves.
  • Raises ethical questions and concerns with the clinical team and seeks resources to understand ethical decisions.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows SSH policies and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording medications.
  • Demonstrates proper procedure for the documentation of narcotic withdrawal, administration, verifies count, wastes per policy, and resolves narcotic discrepancy.
  • Initiates and maintains IV access according to SSH policy and procedure.
  • Fosters a "Culture of Safety" through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
  • Verifies patient identification with two identifiers prior to any invasive procedure, including "time out", administration of care, medications, labeled specimens, and documents confirming the correct patient, procedure, site, equipment, and consent.
  • Complies with current CDC hand hygiene guidelines and adheres to universal precautions.
  • Assesses each patient's risk for falling throughout hospitalization using appropriate interventions.
  • Ensures environment meets regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Understands and demonstrates individual roles and responsibilities in the event of hospital codes/emergency preparedness.
  • Practices patient hand-off utilizing the principles of SBAR, including walking rounds.
  • Assumes overall responsibility for own professional development by incorporating evidenced-based practice, research, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Obtains at least 5 contact hours per year in area of practice.
  • Practices within the legal boundaries of MA Nurse Practice Act and directs other licensed and non-licensed personnel as assigned.
  • Participates in unit-based initiatives and/or hospital committees.
  • Understands and demonstrates job responsibilities for charge nurse, preceptor, and mentor roles.
  • Analyzes cause of problems, identifies and evaluates alternative solutions, and selects appropriate solutions.
  • Assumes an active role in keeping informed about changes in hospital policy, procedure, and equipment.
  • Interacts with patients and families in a compassionate and humanistic manner, demonstrating empathy, sensitivity, and patience.
  • Embraces technological solutions to work processes and practices.
  • Accesses Lotus Notes to review e-mail, learning management, and other resources as applicable to RN role.
  • Utilizes all Meditech applications required by department and unit standards (PCS, EMR, Order Entry, etc.).
  • Participates in continued learning and possesses a willingness and ability to learn and utilize new technology and procedures.
  • Embraces technological advances that allow for effective and efficient communication of information based on role.
