About The Position

This position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Float Pool at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, part of Lifepoint Health. The Float Nurse provides compassionate care to patients across multiple inpatient units, assessing patient needs, administering treatments, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. The role requires flexibility to float where needed and collaborate with interprofessional teams to support safe, high-quality patient care. The hospital is a 295-bed acute care facility serving an 11-county service area in south central Kentucky.

Requirements

  • Current RN license in state of practice.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Associate’s degree in nursing required.
  • 1-2 years minimum bedside RN experience required.
  • BCLS required.
  • Critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision in stressful environments.
  • Ability to quickly learn and navigate multiple clinical software systems.
  • Effective English communication (read, write, speak, and understand).
  • Ability to complete the Skills Competency Checklist within 90 days of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
  • 2-4 years critical care experience preferred.
  • ACLS preferred.
  • PALS preferred.
  • Handle with Care preferred.
  • Ability to successfully complete a Cardiac Rhythms Test within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct patient care using the nursing process across multiple inpatient units.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to float where needed and collaborate with interprofessional teams.
  • Performs plan-of-care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments.
  • Documents care provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Assists with activities of daily living (hygiene, elimination, nutrition, ambulation).
  • Displays initiative and flexibility to float throughout the building to support departments and staff.
  • Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate care (transfers, discharges, referrals, psychosocial/spiritual support).
  • Assesses learning needs and provides age- and culture-appropriate patient/family education.
  • Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
  • Participates in performance improvement and required education.
  • Works other shifts/units as needed and may take on-call assignments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
