About The Position

A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join its Float Pool Weekend Program in Alton, Illinois. The Float Pool RN will provide direct patient care across multiple hospital units based on census, acuity, and staffing needs. This position is designed for an experienced acute-care nurse who is highly adaptable, clinically confident, and comfortable transitioning between different patient populations and care environments. This role offers a significant 40% weekend-program premium on base pay, in addition to a night-shift differential. Candidates must have at least two years of nursing experience. ICU and/or Emergency Department experience is strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license appropriate for practice in Illinois
  • Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience
  • Recent hospital-based acute-care experience
  • Strong patient assessment and clinical decision-making skills
  • Ability to float throughout hospital units based on staffing needs
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and time-management skills
  • Ability to adapt rapidly to different clinical environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to function effectively in high-acuity and fast-paced settings
  • Ability to work 12-hour night shifts
  • Ability to meet the weekend-program commitment of 11 out of every 12 weekends
  • Availability to work two major holidays per year

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, high-quality nursing care across multiple inpatient hospital units
  • Float between departments based on patient census, acuity, and staffing needs
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments and reassessments
  • Develop, implement, and update individualized nursing plans of care
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, treatments, and other nursing interventions
  • Monitor patients for changes in clinical condition and initiate appropriate interventions
  • Communicate significant changes promptly to physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary team
  • Care for patients with a broad range of medical, surgical, and higher-acuity conditions
  • Prioritize multiple patient-care responsibilities in fast-paced environments
  • Adapt quickly to different unit workflows, patient populations, and team structures
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, ancillary staff, and other healthcare professionals
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatments, and discharge planning
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
  • Follow infection-control, patient-safety, and nursing practice standards
  • Support staffing needs throughout the hospital while maintaining consistent standards of care
  • Perform additional nursing responsibilities within scope of practice as assigned
