About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager (or designee), Employee and Occupational Health Services (EOHS), the RN provides evaluation and treatment for the care of ambulatory patients in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines. The RN assists in the care and management of patients to include, but not limited to, history and physical, ongoing assessment, intervention, and coordination of care reflecting the age specific needs of the patient. The RN fosters patient-centered care and nursing services with Brown University Health’s mission, and vision with consideration of the Brown University Health, including all development stages as well as cultural patterns. Requirements

  • Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
  • Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred.
  • RN Licensure in the state of Rhode Island.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • Previous Occupational Health Nurse, Ambulatory or Urgent Care nursing required.
  • Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • Five years related experience as an RN in an occupational health, urgent care or ambulatory care setting.
  • Must have desire to develop expertise in occupational and preventative health.
  • Superb written, clinical and communication skills.
  • Desire to be part of a dynamic team.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates a fundamental grounding in nursing theory and practice with master of knowledge within a defined content area.
  • Manage a caseload of patients in partnership with the healthcare team to optimize health status and coordinate care over time and across healthcare setting.
  • Provides direct care to patients in the ambulatory setting, in accordance with state licensure.
  • Demonstrates advanced physical and psychosocial assessment skills.
  • Collaborates in the development, implementation and evaluation of standards, policies, procedures and critical paths to support the patient care delivery model.
  • Assists the healthcare team to achieve mutually agreed upon healthcare goals by providing necessary support, education and encouragement.
  • Provides expert consultation for clinical issues promoting increased knowledge and skills for the consultee.
  • Participates in continued health education and advocacy for our 16,000 employees.
  • Demonstrates team collaboration to optimize the health of our employees for work-related and non-work-related concerns.
  • Annually completes mandatory training as assigned.
  • Participates in department-based quality improvement.
  • Utilizes all available resources to provide quality, cost effective patient care.
  • Provides leadership by delegating, supervising and participating in nursing care activities provided by ancillary personnel.
  • Serves as a role model to less experienced personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
