About The Position

Washington Outpatient Surgery Center, LLC (WOSC) is a multi-specialty center, with five operating rooms and two procedure rooms, that operates Monday through Friday. WOSC has been offering its patients advanced surgical services in a convenient, comfortable setting since April 1986. We value our employees and have an organizational commitment to innovation, process improvements, and pursuit of excellence. The ENDO RN provides direct patient care in the endoscopy department. Responsible for patient during all phases of care in perioperative setting: telephone pre-op evaluation, admitting, conscious sedation, recovery, and post-op phone calls.

Requirements

  • Associates level degree from an accredited school of nursing required
  • Active RN California License
  • Current AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS Certification
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, visitors, physicians and with their office personnel, coworkers, and other healthcare facilities in a positive, respectful, and considerate manner
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems
  • Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in American English
  • Electronic Medical Record experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's level preferred
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in an acute care facility preferred (in the last five years), in the admitting department, operating room, or post anesthesia recovery.
  • ASC experience and GI/Endoscopy experience preferred
  • Strong ethical and moral character references
  • Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, and general public
  • EPIC experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Participate as a team member in support of the total perioperative process
  • Perform patient's pre-op evaluation over the phone and assist in assessing the physical and emotional status prior to admission
  • Provides pre-op instructions and answer any questions the patient may have
  • Administer medications and perform safe, individualized care for the patients
  • Effectively communicate with the team, physicians, and patient family members regarding the patient's status and changes in the schedule
  • Develop a plan of care to meet patient's needs related to surgical condition
  • Confirm that proper techniques and procedures are used according to accepted standards of practice
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of preoperative and postoperative area
  • Obtain lab tests and results as indicated; report abnormal values per policy
  • Explain perioperative plan of care to the patient/patient's family including what to expect during the recovery phase and how the family plays a role
  • Assess and document patient's physical and emotional status upon arrival to the recovery room and upon discharge
  • Perform postoperative telephone contact to assess patient's post-op status and provide further education and advise as needed
